Mould polishing is a crucial step in the mould-making process, particularly for moulds that require high surface quality. Polishing not only enhances the appearance of plastic products but also improves the mould's corrosion resistance and durability, facilitates easier injection moulding, shortens cycle times, and simplifies part ejection.

1. Preparation Before Polishing

The worker must be familiar with the specific polishing requirements for the mould part, including the polishing location, shape, size, and required accuracy.

Before starting, inspect the polishing surface for defects like burrs, corner collapses, deformations, sand holes, or other imperfections.

Choose appropriate tools and clamps, and ensure the mold is properly protected.

Maintain a clean and tidy workspace.

2. Clamping and Mould Protection

For molds weighing less than 20 kg, use a bench clamp for stability.

For larger molds, use magnets and screws to secure the mold in place.

For small or delicate molds, carefully secure the mold and protect surfaces with rubber plates to avoid damage.

For molds with sharp corners, use rubberized fabric to cover them, preventing injury or damage to the mold.

3. Tools Used in Mold Polishing

Polishing requires various tools, including:

Oil stone, file, abrasive cloth, abrasive paper

Milling gypsum, milling stick, clean paper, and more

4. Types of Mold Polishing

Textured Processing: Adds texture to the mold surface for specific appearance effects.

Abrasive Blasting Treatment: Uses abrasives to treat and clean the surface.

High-Gloss Polishing: Achieves a bright, mirror-like finish on the mold surface.

5. Mold Polishing Steps

The typical polishing process follows these steps:

Filing

Crude oil stone

Fine oil stone

Coarse abrasive cloth

Fine sandpaper

Milling gypsum

By following these steps, SWY ensures that the mold surface is polished to meet the highest standards. If you have any questions or would like more details, feel free to contact Shine:
